My First Month Back At The Gym

So it's been about a month since the gyms reopened and I've been loving getting back into my fitness. I’ve managed at least 3 sessions a week every week and I’ve been enjoying it so much. I’ve tried to mix things up by taking part in some outdoor classes, along with weight training and some cardio too.

Although I have been aching so much, whatever the workout version of "eye’s bigger than my belly". Is it "eye's bigger than my arms?", anyhow, a lot of long soaks in the bath have been required.

I also started the empower programme at énergie Fitness Milton Keynes. It’s a unique programme set by a Personal Trainer, which includes an initial 30 minute session with a PT, which starts by setting a routine and starting weights and reps and you can increase your reps and weight gradually over the 30 days and beyond. Your PT will demonstrate and explain each exercise and give you the opportunity to try it for yourself, whilst establishing the right settings and duration to match your current fitness levels and desired workout intensity.

They use the 8-16 rule

  1. Technique is king
  2. If you can’t do 8 repetitions with good form, go lighter
  3. Do as many reps as you can safely.
  4. One you can exceed 16 reps increase resistance, i.e. go heavier.  

At the end of the 30 days you should feel more confident and have a great routine you can build on and add to, plus the benefit of getting towards your ideal body, in my case, a little less squish and a little more toned. I also really want to be able to do full bodyweight pull ups.
